Smith Named To Academic All-District Baseball Team

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 12) -- NC State junior infielder Jason Smith has has
been voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III team, it was announced.
Smith, who holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA in construction engineering, is the Wolfpack's regular third baseman. Through 50 games this season, he was batting .322 with five doubles and 14 RBIs. He had scored 33 runs and stolen 15 bases in 16 attempts.
Smith is one of just two players from the Atlantic Coast Conference selected to the first team. Outfielder Matt Diaz of Florida State also was a first team Academic All-District selection.
By making the Academic All-District team, Smith is automatically a finalist for Academic All-American honors. If selected, he would become the third NC State player to be named Academic All-American, joining Chris Woodfin (1991) and Jake Weber (1996-98).
