Josh Nixon asks How quick does your decision-making have to be in game time situations?
---
It's hard to explain, it's very quick - almost split-second. The hardest thing about the transition from high school to college is the speed of the game.
dunn parks and recreation department asks Clayton do you miss your home town of DUNN?
I miss Dunn a lot and everything about it. Hello to everyone back in Dunn!
Joey Gaddy asks What was the team's reaction when you learned that Mike O'Cain was headed to unc as the offensive coordinator?
I wasn't surprised at all. I think he had to do what he had to do for his family. I don't think he betrayed us at all.
Jim Holmes asks From the heart Clayton, which ACC team do you want to beat the most this year?!
Carolina. Just because they are Carolina.
Scott Whitley asks Clayton: What did you weigh in at after spring practice?
After spring practice was over, I weighed in at 223.
Aidan O'Shay asks With a less experienced offensive unit, does the defense feel more pressure to perform at a higher level and carry more of the load?
We don't feel any additonal pressure. The defense has to be ready every game no matter who we play to go out there and shut down the opponent.
Sean Redd asks Who do you feel will be some key players on defense during the upcoming season?
Adrian Wilson, Jeff Fisher, Drew Winstatt, Brian Williams, J.J. Washington and the linebacking corps.
Kyemma Murphy asks How do you expect the team to do this year with the loss of several key offensive players including Jamie Barnette?
I think the offense is going to surprise some people this fall. Losing Jamie and the other offensive players from last year was tough, but they will have a good season.
Derek Mathews asks what are the expectations of the players for this year?
The one thing Coach Amato has stressed is 100 percent effort at all times.
Jack D Smith asks Clayton, This being your senior year could you tell me how this years defensive unit looks as opposed to the last 3. Are you guys deeper than in the past?
Personnel wise it's the same. I think we might have more depth upfront. We should be a good unit this year.
Johnny Blevins asks What changes in the new conditioning program have made the most impact on your football ability?
My endurance and overall strength has improved as well as my speed and quickness.
Roger Townley asks What do you think of the new uniform selections?
I haven't seen them so I can't comment on that just yet.
Ryan Nance asks Has the defense been working hard to improve thier tackling techniques over spring practice and the off-season?
Yes, every day during spring practice we had a 10-minute tackling session.
Larry Chestnutt asks Do you feel the linebackers we have a NCSU this year could be one of the best in the ACC?
I think so because we have depth and experience at the linebacker position.
Corky Tart asks Your stats speak for themselves, I see you as one of the great Linebackers in Wolfpack history ranking with Vaughn Johnson, Bill Cowher and Chuck Amato. Any thoughts on a pro career?
Yes, I would love to play in the pros, but I can't dwell on that right now. I'm concentrating on my senior year.
Ray Howell asks What is your biggest concern with the upcoming year.
Our youth and lack of depth on both sides of the ball.
Matt Lail asks How much more intense has the defense been, if any, under Amato and Green and Co.?
It's like night and day, it's been much more intense during the spring.
john m. parker sr. asks what are your and the teams goal for the upcoming 2000 football season.
We want to win, be a championship team and do the things on the field that champions do. For me, I want to be more of a vocal leader and give everything I can on every play.
Karl Quinn asks Who is your most hated rival that the wolfpack faces each year? Carolina? Florida St.? Somebody Else?
Carolina.
Sally Greaser asks How is the attitude of the team different now from what it was during the 1999 season?
The players believe in each other more. Coach Amato wanted us to be in shape coming into the spring and we lost a collective 400 pounds as a team. There seemed to be more focus at spring practice.
Matt Mintmier asks You have had a tremdendous football career here at NC State and we all look forward to you having another one. If you could pick out one thing that might suprise the fans here at NC State this season what would it be?
We will probably bring more emotion and intensity to the game because that has been stressed a lot in spring practice. I think we might be a more mentally tough team and the fans will be able to recognize that. They will see a lot of excitement.
scott thomas asks I've always thought LB would be the funnest position to play. What play is most satisfying - popping a receiver after a catch? Or busting a RB who just slipped up the middle? Or making the INT? Or somethine else?
Sacking the quarterback is the most satisfying becasue it's usually a big play in the game. Next to that would be picking off a pass and running it back for a touchdown.
Mickey Edwards asks Based on Spring Practice: What do you see as the greatest DEFENSE need for this season?
I think our greatest need is for us to come together and be there for each other.
Daniel Westmoreland asks Clayton, I know you are pretty excited to have such a defensive-minded head coach now at NCSU. What has been Coach Amato's biggest emphasis on the linebacking corps during the spring practice?
He wants us being aggressive and focused. He has really stressed the mental part of the game. He wants us intense on every play.
Danny Whitley asks Who was your biggest supporter of you playing football?
My biggest supporters were my parents no doubt. They have been there throughout my career.
Todd Burney asks Clayton how do you feel about the new coaching staff? Looking in from a fans viewpoint, I'm really excited. But I was wandering what the players opinion was.
I'm impressed with the new coaching staff. They have high expectations for us.
