ATHENS, GA (April 1, 2000) -- The NC State Gymnastics program was honored three times at the NCAA Region VI Championships, held at Georgia's Stegeman Coliseum on April 1. The Wolfpack honorees included Mark Stevenson, Sam Schuh and Shannon Yates.
Stevenson was named District VI Coach of the Year thanks in large part to leading NC State to its second consecutive EAGL Conference Crown. This marks the third occasion that Stevenson has been honored as District Coach of the Year. In 1993 and 1994, he also captured coach of the year honors.
Schuh, an assistant coach to Stevenson for the past 19 years, was honored as the district's Assistant Coach of the Year. This is the second time that he has received this honor, having also taken home the award in 1992.
Yates, who is the Assistant Athletics Director for Game Day Operations, has been a member of the Wolfpack family since she was a student athletic trainer in 1988. She received the award as the top athletics administrator in the district. It was the first time that Yates was so honored.
Georgia gymnast Kristi Lichey was also honored as the district's top performer.
