"Although I have decided to make this move, it has not been an easy decision," said Williams. "I've thought long and hard about it and I just feel it's the best thing for me. I appreciate everything that Coach Sendek and his staff have done for me and I'm glad to have their support. I've enjoyed playing for the great NC State fans and for this program, but I just feel that I need to make a change."
Williams, a 6-4 freshman guard from Milwaukee, Wisc., averaged 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds this season while playing in 20 contests. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a partial tear of meniscus cartilage in his left knee on Feb. 9 and missed the final 14 games of the season. Williams has received his official release and said he plans to enroll at Marquette University.
"We respect the fact that Marshall has decided to leave NC State and recognize the changing landscape of college basketball, including the increasing number of transfers and early departures," said Sendek. "We certainly wish Marshall continued success in returning home to play at Marquette."
