Rivers To Miss Spring Game
4/13/2000 12:00:00 AM | Football
Rivers broke the finger on his second of 28 pass attempts in the scrimmage, hitting a lineman's helmet or shoulder pads on his follow-through.
Rivers, who has been the Pack's leading passer in scrimmages this spring, will undergo surgery on Friday and will be unable to throw for six to eight weeks. Dr. David Fajgenbaum will insert a screw into the finger to stabilize the fracture and Rivers should be back at 100 percent by this summer.
The 1999 Alabama Player-of-the-Year, Rivers graduated from Athens (Ala.) High School in December, and is competing at NC State as a true freshman. He has completed 50 percent of his passes this spring, gaining 648 yards in four scrimmages.
Other players who will miss Saturday's game are: OL Lonnell Becoate - neck contusion; C Derek Green - high ankle sprain; OL Walker Franklin - broken right ring finger; DB Rod Johnson - strained MCL; WR Bryan Peterson - hamstring.
