The Pack's returning All-American 200 medley relay squad of Braden Holloway, Greg Solt, Jarod Proto, and Valter Magnusson reclaimed the title during Friday's competition. The NC State squad swam the relay in a time of 1:38.17 during the afternoon's preliminary competition, before placing seventh, while tallying a 1:38.24 in the finals competition.
The Pack also had two individual performers participating in action on Friday. Holloway, who swam the second fastest 100 backstroke ever registered at the ACC Championships earlier this season, placed 16th in the 100 back as registered a preliminary time of :54.12. Magnusson, the ACC's runner-up in the 100 butterfly, also participated in preliminary action as he registered a :55.44 in the 100 fly.
NC State's head coach Scott Hammond was quite pleased with his squad's effort. "We just had a great day today. The performance of our 200 medley relay team marked the first time since 1976 that NC State has had a relay team make the top eight at the NCAAs. Braden [Holloway] had a great day too. I'm very proud of our team!"
This is the first NCAA championship men's swimming meet to be held in a 25-meter pool.
