NC State's 200 medley relay team celebrates
it's 2000 ACC Title. |
RALEIGH, N.C.- Greg Solt, Braden Holloway, Jarod Proto and Valter Magnusson of the NC State men's swimming team have earned invitations to the 2000 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet will be held at the University of Minnesota from March 23-25.
All four individuals will compete in four relays at the nationals. Those relay events are the 200 and 400 medley relays as well as the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The same four student-athletes won All-America accolades when they placed 13th in the 200 medley relay at the 1999 NCAA Championships. At the 2000 ACC Championships last month, the foursome swam the ninth fastest time in the nation this year when they captured the conference title in a time of 1:27.73.
Braden Holloway will also compete in three individual events at the 2000 Championships including the 200 IM and the 100 and 200 backstroke. Holloway, who captured the 100 backstroke ACC Crown while finishing as the runner-up in the 200 competition, swam the 100 backstroke in a preliminary time of 47.77 at the conference meet. That is the 11th fastest time in the NCAA this season and the second quickest ever tallied at the ACCs. Last season, Holloway placed 22nd in the 100 backstroke in a time of 48.90.
Greg Solt and Valter Magnusson will also participate in individual events while at the NCAA Championships. Solt, the 2000 ACC Champion in the 50 freestyle with his time of 20.02, will look to improve on his 40th place finish in the 50 freestyle at last seasons NCAAs. Magnusson, who didn't participate in any individual events at last season's nationals, will be competing in the 100 butterfly in 2000. Magnusson placed second at the 2000 ACCs in the 100 fly with his time of 48.53.
NC State, who is currently ranked 23rd in the nation by the CSCAA, will look to improve on last season's 34th place showing. With NC State performers slated to compete in nine separate events, the Pack will have an excellent shot at besting its 1999 finish.
Tickets for the 2000 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships can be purchased by calling the University of Minnesota's Ticket Office at 1-800-UGOPHER.
