The loss dropped the Wolfpack to 7-3 in dual matches for the season, while Navy's record rose to 8-2.
Navy jumped out to an early lead when Don Waters won a close decision in the 157 pound classification. Thanks to two escape points, Waters edged out the Pack's Scott Garren, 1-2
In the 165 pound match, NC State's Joel Dramis tallied a major decision over James Griffin, 10-2. With the match score at 9-2, Griffin was handed a major defeat via the extra point that he was awarded for having over a minute riding time.
Navy returned to it's winning ways in the 174 pound match. Mark Newman defeated the Pack's Kevin Boross, handing him just his third defeat of the season. A late escape point gave Newman a slim advantage in the final period as he hung on for the 3-2 victory.
The 184 match was quite possibly the turning point of the meet. With the score tied at one and NC State's Zach Breitenbach locked in a battle with Navy's Mike Bigrigg in overtime, Bigrigg was awarded a point on a stalling call against Breitenbach. The call gave Navy a 9-4 lead in the meet as Bigrigg took the match 2-1.
Justin Woodruff of Navy was victorious in the 197 match when he scored a couple of late points on escapes versus NC State's Jason Gore. Gore ended up losing, 4-6.
The heavy weight match was the second match of the meet to enter overtime. With NC State's Ngozi Collins and Navy's Steve Kovach tied at two in the extra period, Kovach tallied a take down and won the match, 4-2.
Navy's Drew Smith scored an easy victory in the 125 pound meet when NC State forfeit the match. The Pack was forced to forfeit due to the fact that George Cintron, NC State's only 125 performer, was still hampered by a sprained MCL.
The 133 pound match saw Navy's Zane Stickel score a 6-8 victory over NC State's Lee Carroll. Carroll had pulled to with in a point, at 6-7, but a Stickel point on an escape move in the third period helped seal the victory for him.
Mark Conley tallied Navy's only major decision of the meet when he defeated Oraefo Brown, 5-13. Conley was awarded an extra point for his allotment of riding time minutes as he knocked off Brown by the eight points needed to score a major win.
The final match of the meet saw NC State's Tommy Davis, ranked No. 14 in the nation, score a 5-2 decision over Tom Storer. Davidson received four of his five points via two takedowns.
