Rivers Named To Football News First-Team All-Freshmen Squad

Rivers, a true freshman, had an outstanding season in leading the Wolfpack to a 7-4 record and an appearance in the Micronpc.com Bowl on December 28 against Minnesota. He was the first true freshman quarterback to open the season as a starter in NC State history.
A native of Athens, Ala., Rivers threw for 3,054 yards and set the school record for touchdown passes in a season with 25. His 3,054 yards passing were the most by a freshman in ACC history and the second most yards in the school's annals. His 25 passing touchdowns are the sixth-most in league history.
Overall, he was responsible for a school record 28 touchdowns, as he ran for two and caught one. He completed 237-of-441 passes and threw just nine interceptions in 11 games.
Rivers set or tied 10 school and ACC records and owns four of the top 10 single-game passing marks in school history. He threw for over 300 yards in a school-record tying four games and had two 400-yard contests. Rivers threw for 401 yards and a school record-tying five touchdown passes and threw for 413 yards against Duke. He also set a school mark by throwing a touchdown pass in nine straight games.
Despite playing just 11 games, Rivers ranks fifth all-time in touchdown passes and ninth in passing yards for a career.
