Swimming Teams Finish First Day At Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. - The NC State men's and women's swimming/diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Georgia Invitational Friday evening. The men head into Day Two of competition in fifth place with 102 points, while the women will begin the second day fourth overall, with 167 points.
Leading the way for the Wolfpack men was senior All-American Greg Solt, who finished third in the 50 free with a time of 20.47. Richard Culberson was the top NC State finisher (8th overall) in the 500 free with a time of 4:35.04, while All-American Braden Holloway took a 13th overall finish in the 200 IM (1:53.69). In the 200 free relay, Holloway, Solt, Randy Tyner and Chris Swank took fourth-place with 1:23.11. Holloway and Solt continued their busy day by teaming with Suha Akman and Tim Haley for an eighth overall finish in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:26.54
The NC State women were led by Erin Bailey, who took fourth overall in the 3 meter diving competition with a score of 451.30. The Wolfpack's 200 free (Dawn DeLuca, Andrea Hastings, Mandy Horn and Mary Mittendorf) and 400 medley relay (AnnaMaria Gazda, Natalie Jones, DeLuca and Horn) squads posted strong fifth-place finishes with times of 1:37.45 and 3:55.48, respectively. Hastings also led the way for NC State in the 50 free with a 10th-place finish (23.93), while Horn paced the Wolfpack with a 17th overall finish (5:06.81) in the 500 free. Also, Mary Mittendorf was top NC State finisher in the 200 IM (2:06.19).
Day two of competition will commence at 10:30 a.m. with preliminary action, followed by event finals at 6:00 p.m.
