Swimming & Diving Takes Three of Four

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The swimming and diving programs took three victoires out of a possible four on Nov. 4 in Pittsburgh at a tri-meet.
The women defeated Rutgers 127-116 and host Pittsburgh 133-110. The Wolfpack men downed Rutgers 143-95, but later fell to Pittsburgh 146-95.
The Wolfpack women were once again strong in the relays winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:56.12, and the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.64. Senior Mary Mittendorf then posted another win for NC State in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.62. Sophomore AnnaMaria Gazda took 1st for NC State in the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.36), while senior Natalie Jones posted a Wolfpack win in the 200 yard breastroke (2:21.45), just ahead of junior Bridgett Bowers (2:24.97).
For the men, senior Stephen Matthews posted the first win for the Wolfpack in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:27.72, slightly ahead of senior Mark Eberlie, who took second in 9:29.57. Senior All-American Greg Solt took another win in the 50 yard freestyle in 20.77, while junior Tim Haley won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:53.05. Senior Suha Akman closed out the NC State scoring by placing first in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:09.10.
The Wolfpack's next meet will be at East Carolina on Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m.
