DALLAS, Texas - N.C. State University junior linebacker Levar Fisher (Beaufort, NC) was selected first-team All-America by the Football Writers Association of America, the FWAA announced on Tuesday (Nov. 21).
Fisher, who is a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, has enjoyed one of the best seasons for a Wolfpack linebacker since 1992. Fisher, who has recorded 149 tackles, leads the nation in tackles per game with a 14.9 average. His 149 tackles are eight most in school history and the most since Damien Covington recorded 149 stops in 1992. Fisher also leads the team with 15 tackles for loss, seven passes defensed and four caused fumbles.
A native of Beaufort, N.C., Fisher, who has been named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week twice this season, has recorded three of the school's Top 10 single-game tackle totals in school history. He recorded 21 tackles against Maryland, 20 against Florida State and 19 versus Clemson.
"I've had the opportunity to be around some great linebackers during my tenures at Florida State, Arizona and NC State, but Levar Fisher is as good as anyone I have ever been around," said NC State head coach Chuck Amato.
For his career, Fisher has 327 tackles, which is 10th best and his 29 tackles for loss are the fourth-most in school history.
Fisher is the ninth different NC State player to be homored by the FWAA and the first since Torry Holt was named in 1998.
