Women's Golf Finishes 17th At Tarheel Invitational

Chapel Hill, NC (Oct. 8) - NC State's women's golf team finished 17th in the Franklin Street & Trust Tarheel Invitational played at UNC's Finley Golf Course on Oct. 6-8. Competing against some of the top teams in the country, the Wolfpack shot a three-round total of 1,016 in just their third tournament since the program was reinstated this fall. Coach Page Marsh Lea's squad, consisting of five freshman, carded a 341 in the final 18-hole round on Oct. 8.
Nationally-ranked Duke easily won the team title with a 30-over-par 894 to defeat runner-up Tennessee by 19 shots. Georgia, South Florida and Furman rounded out the top five.
Malin Claesson, a rookie from Kalmar, Sweden, led the Wolfpack with a 54-hole total of 242 to finish in a tie for 50th in the individual standings. Freshmen Chloe Ritson of Scarisbrick, England recorded a 248 tournament total to finish in a tie for 69th.
Duke's Candy Hannemann (73-72-75=220) and Leigh Anne Hardin (73-72-75=220) tied for individual medalist honors.
NC State's will compete in its final tournament of the fall season on Nov. 6-8 in the Pine Needles Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C.
