Wolfpack Women Golfers 17th in Tarheel Invitational

Chapel Hill, NC (Oct. 6) - NC State's women's golf team, competing in just its third event since the program was reinstated this fall, stands in 17th after the first round of the Franklin Street Trust/Tarheel Invitational Oct. 6. The 17-team field includes several nationally-ranked teams.
The Wolfpack, playing with a squad entirely made up of freshmen, shot a first round 338 in the first round of competition to stand in 17th on the leaderboard.
Malin Claesson led NC State by shooting an 80 in the first round of the tournament. The freshman from Kalmar, Sweden is currently tied for 59th in the individual standings. Chloe Ritson of Scarisbrick, England fired an 81 for the Wolfpack. Raleigh's Sarah Davis carded an 86 in the first round and is tied for 84th.
Nationally ranked Duke leads the event with a 295, followed by Wake Forest at 298. Furman's Jennifer Perri sits atop the individual leaderboard with a two-under par 70. The second round of the event will be held on Saturday with the final 18 holes being played on Sunday.
