Scott Horne Asks: My question is what is the biggest thing that we need to focus on in our game at Clemson Saturday?
We need to make sure we are not distracted down there and stay with the game plan regardless of what happenes. We will probably need to control the ball more on offense.
mike proctor Asks: What kinds of things are we going to do to neutralize Clemson's pass rush to give Rivers time? Also, will we use the shotgun more against the Tigers?
We'll have to change our protections up some and not get into a groove to keep Clemson off-balance. We'll use the gun some like we have been all season.
Gray Stout Asks: Do you script a certain number of plays to begin a game?
Yes I do. Anywhere from 8-15. You want to present some different things early to see how the defense reacts to them - formations, etc.
Jim Eason Asks: Did you ever think that Phillip Rivers would mature into a team leader so quick?
The fact that he has been put into this role has forced him to be a leader. You don't envision a freshman quarterback being the leader of the team, but he has responded to that role very well.
Karl Quinn Asks: Do you enjoy living in the Raleigh area? Has it been a big adjustment after living the past 20 years in Utah?
My family is still in Utah, so they haven't had the chance to move yet. It has been a good change and I enjoy Raleigh very much.
Loren Adams Asks: Has your offensive style always been to establish the pass first and then go to the run? Or has your style changed as college football has going more to the air.
The style has been to do what ever is necessary to win the game. The pass has been a great equalizer of talent if you can't go toe-to-toe with someone physically. We try to have some balance, but the style is simply to win the game.
Chris Horton Asks: How does the recruiting look for next year's offensive squad?
We cannot talk about recruits until after we get their signed National Letter of Intent, but it's an on-going process.
Mark Minshew Asks: Are you satisfied with the running game so far?
Yes, I am. We try to reach balance, but because of the games we've been in, we haven't run as much as we would like.
don buckey Asks: Is the Wolfpack offense the same offense you have run in the past at BYU - or does the offense combine some things that have come from the various coaches on the staff?
It's the NC State offense, not the BYU offense. I would be foolish not to get input from the other coaches on the staff and incorporate their ideas. The only thing that's similar is the terminology.
David Emmett Asks: Who was the biggest influence on you in your coaching and play calling style?
Three guys actually, Doug Scovill, Ted Toner and Bob Baker.
Dave Drake Asks: When is the QB responsible for changing the play at the line, and how many options does he have?
The way we work is, if the play doesn't fit the defensive coverage the quarterback sees - or thinks he sees - then he has the freedom to change the play to one or two other plays. In the future as Philip matures, he will have more options to check too.
