Former Pack Receivers Have Big Sundays in the NFL
10/30/2000 12:00:00 AM | Football
When receivers Alvis Whitted and Torry Holt were teammates at NC State in
1997, Holt was clearly the Pack's 'headline maker.' On Sunday, however,
Whitted took full advantage of his opportunity to grab a few headlines of
his own.
Whitted grabbed a short pass from quarterback from Mark Brunell and raced 37-yards in overtime to give the Jacksonville Jaguars a 23-17 victory over the Cowboys in Dallas. Two of Whitted's three catches on Sunday went for touchdowns.
Holt, as usual, was a big contributor to the St. Louis Rams, who got back on the winning track with a 34-24 triumph at San Francisco. Holt finished with five catches for 64 yards. The 1998 ACC Player of the Year's average of 20.8 yards per catch is No.1 in the NFC.
