Swimming & Diving Defeats Rice, 149-88

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 27) - The NC State women's swimming/diving team captured its first win of the season under new head coach Brooks Teal by defeating Rice, 149-88, on Oct. 27. The win moves the Wolfpack's record to 1-1 overall (0-1 ACC).
Among the winners for NC State was senior Mary Mittendorf, who won the 200 Individual Medley (2:06.75) and the 200 butterfly (2:07.79). Mittendorf, a Cornelius, NC native, also led off the winning 400 freestyle relay squad (3:32.09), which also included junior Mandy Horn, senior Dawn DeLuca and junior Andrea Hastings.
Sophomore Erin Bailey continued her winning ways for the Wolfpack by claiming both diving events for the second consecutive meet. Bailey took the one-meter competition with a score of 291.9 and the three-meter board with a score of 290.55
Also winning for NC State were sophomores AnnaMaria Gazda, who won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:04.76 and Katie Sheridan, a winner in the 500 freestyle (5:03.72). The Wolfpack women relied on their superior depth throughout the meet, sporting 24 members on its roster to just 14 for the Owls.
The Wolfpack's next meet will be a tri-meet against Pittsburgh/Duquesne at 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 3.
