Maryland Swimmers Sweep Wolfpack

College Park, MD (Oct. 21) - The NC State men's and women's swimming/diving squads were swept Oct. 21 by the University of Maryland in the Wolfpack's season opener. The NC State men lost 144-99 , while the Wolfpack women fell 154-89.
Among the bright spots for the Wolfpack were senior All-Americans Greg Solt and Braden Holloway. Solt was a winner in the men's 50 freestyle (20.83), while Holloway took first in the men's 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.28. Sophmore diver Erin Bailey also captured the women's 1 meter (258 points) and 3-meter (255.29) diving competitions to boost the Wolfpack's score. Amber O'Reilly finished second in the 1-meter with a score of 244.65. NC State swept the top four spots in the women's 3-meter competition with Bailey finishing first, followed by junior Erin Lambie, junior Nicole Vanderbeke and O'Reilly.
Junior Tim Haley also captured a win for NC State in the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 1:52.43. Kathleen Tonini finished also posted a first-place finish in the women's 200 backstroke in a time of 2:08.79.
The Wolfpack women will next compete against Rice's women's squad in Raleigh on Friday, Oct. 27th at the Willis Casey Aquatics Center at 6 p.m.
