North Carolina coach Carl Torbush on NC State quarterback Philip Rivers.
"He's mature beyond his years. If you didn't know any better, you would
think that he was a junior or a senior, and that's a great compliment. It's
also a great compliment to coach Chow for his ability to teach and get
Rivers to understand what they're doing offensively. The team's got great
confidence in him. If he sees a blitz, he's going to take advantage of it.
If he sees bump and run coverage, he's going to try to take advantage of it.
He knows what he's trying to get done."
NC State coach Chuck Amato on the importance of beating North Carolina.
"In five years if I'm 5-and-50 and the only team I beat is them, would I
still have a job?"
Wolfpack quarterback Philip Rivers on playing in his first North Carolina game.
"I know it's a big rivalry. Alabama-Auburn was the big rivalry back where
I'm from. I've known about this rivalry also. I started keeping up with it
when I started to have an interest in NC State. It's definitely an important
game, not only because of the rivalry, but because it's another ACC game."
North Carolina center Adam Metts on facing NC State.
"I don't really look at it as a different game. I try to look at it as
another game on our schedule."
Amato on the emotion of the NC State-Carolina game.
"That emotion only carries you until the first couple of times you get hit
in the mouth. Then reality sets in."
Torbush talking about Tar Heels offensive coordinator and former Wolfpack head coach Mike O'Cain coaching against NC State for the first time.
"This is a game between the players. It's a game between the University of
North Carolina and North Carolina State. This is not a game between Carl
Torbush and Chuck Amato. And it's not Mike O'Cain vs. North Carolina State.
This game is between the players that have worked really hard to give
themselves this opportunity."
