Stroud comes to the Wolfpack after working for three season as the strength and conditioning coach for all sports at the University of Memphis.
Stroud, who played at Florida State for Amato in the mid-80s, also has experience coaching on the sidelines. Prior to his appointment at Memphis, he served as head football coach at the University of West Alabama from 1994-96.
"Todd Stroud has a reputation as one of the top strength coaches in America," said Amato. "I coached him and he knows how I want our players worked. He is a taskmaster and I know that under his direction, our players will develop the physical skills and strength we need to play at a championship level."
A St. Petersburg, Fla., native, Stroud worked as the head strength and conditioning coach under Coach Terry Bowden at Auburn University in 1993, when the Tigers posted an 11-0 record. He was a member of Bowden"s staff at Samford University from 1987-93, working as defensive line coach as well as strength and conditioning coach. During that period, Samford participated in the NCAA IAA playoffs twice and went 22-5 during a two-year stretch.
Stroud was a three-year starter at noseguard for the Seminoles. He served as captain of the 1985 team that earned a trip to the Gator Bowl, and he also helped lead FSU to the 1983 Peach Bowl and 1984 Citrus Bowl. He was named a two-time NSCA Nutrament All-American.
Stroud received his undergraduate degree in movement science from Florida State in 1985 and his master"s degree in athletic administration from Alabama-Birmingham in 1988. He is married to the former Marianne Sylvers of Minneapolis, Minn and the couple has three daughters: Jessica (10), Alexandra (9), Chelsea (8).
