Wolfpack Garners Two ACC Players of the Week

OFFENSIVE BACK - Thomas Jones, Virginia Jones, a 5-10, 207-pound senior, rushed for 149 yards (4.3 yards per carry) and one touchdown in Virginia's season-opening 20-17 win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Jones matched his career-high 35 rushing attempts in the game. On Virginia's first touchdown drive, Jones carried the ball seven times for 34 yards in the 64-yard drive and scored on a one-yard run. The Big Stone Gap, Va. product has rushed for 100 yards-or-more in nine of his last 13 regular season games.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Jon Carman, Georgia Tech Carman, a 6-8, 335-pound tackle from Waldorf, Md., graded 95 percent with five RBI (downfield blocks that lead to long gains) as he paved the way for 341 yards rushing and 487 yards of total offense in Georgia Tech's 49-14 victory over Navy. Tech's 341-yard effort was its best rushing output since 1993. Six different Tech backs gained 35 yards or more, and five of the Jackets' seven touchdowns were on the ground.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Brian Jamison, NC State Jamison, a 6-2, 215-pound sophomore defensive end caused a school-record four fumbles in the Wolfpack's 10-0 shutout of South Carolina. The Swedesboro, N.C., native also had five solo tackles and one assist, including two quarterback sacks for 11 yards in losses and three quarterback pressures.
DEFENSIVE BACK - Brian Williams, NC State A 6-1, 192-pound sophomore free safety from High Point, N.C., Williams recorded a team-high 16 tackles in the win over South Carolina, including 10 solo stops or first hits, and blocked the punt that was scooped up for the Wolfpack's only touchdown in a 10-0 shutout. Williams also had two tackles for a loss of seven yards and recovered a fumble.
SPECIALIST - Todd Braverman, Virginia A 5-7, 173-pound junior from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Braverman kicked a career-best 50-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining in the game to lift Virginia to a 20-17 win at North Carolina Saturday. It was his second field goal of the day. He kicked a 23-yard field goal with 2:20 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 3-3.
ROOKIE - Chris Williams, Virginia A 6-3, 212-pound freshman defensive back out of Newport News, Va., Williams had five tackles, including four solo efforts and had one interception with a return of 27 yards in Virginia's win over North Carolina on Saturday. In addition, Williams had one pass break up while participating in 77 plays.
