Mike O'Cain, who was relieved of his duties as NC State's head football coach last month, has agreed to terms on a contract settlement with the university.
"As of today, I have reached an agreement with the university which brings to close an enjoyable 14-year relationship with NC State," O'Cain said in written statement released by the NC State Media Relations department. "I take away great memories, close friendships and few regrets. I can now look forward to moving ahead with new career opportunities."
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, although at the time of his dismissal, O'Cain had three years remaining on a contract that was worth $146,000 per year.
One of those opportunities O'Cain might explore is the vacant offensive coordinator's position at the University of North Carolina. O'Cain, whose Wolfpack teams went 0-7 against the Tar Heels, has spoken to UNC head coach Carl Torbush about the job.
O'Cain's seven-year tenure at NC State produced a 41-40 record and three bowl appearances. Prior to being promoted to the position of head coach, he was Dick Sheridan's quarterback's coach between 1986-92.
