The cloak of secrecy, which has covered NC State's search for a new football coach hasn't necessarily been lifted, but small tidbits of new information were provided by Wolfpack Athletics Director Les Robinson on Thursday.
"I've spoken to around two dozen coaches, of which six to ten could be considered to be legitimate candidates," Robinson said. "I think we've got a pretty good working number right now but I'm not going to say there's not somebody who called me ten days ago who we couldn't talk to again."
Robinson also said that he hoped to whittle his list of finalists down to four by "around Christmas time."
On another front, Robinson has been granted permission by the NCAA to contact high school prospects who had already committed to NC State or were being recruited by Mike O'Cain's staff.
"The NCAA has allowed me to be designated as a coach," he said. " My message is that we're going to have a coach early in January. I tell them we're going to have a very good coach and one that I'd be surprised that you wouldn't be excited about playing for."
Robbie Caldwell and Joe Pate, who were members of O'Cain's staff, have also been retained for the purpose of staying in touch with recruits.
