Wells working his way Back

In Wednesday night's exhibition basketball game against the California All-Stars, a total of nine scholarship players logged double-figure minutes for NC State. That's a rather startling fact when you consider that forward Tim Wells and center Cornelius Williams were wearing street clothes on the bench.
No Wolfpack team in recent memory has had this much depth, and the competition for minutes will only increase when Williams and Wells are healthy enough to battle for playing time.
Williams, a 6-11 junior from Ft. McClellan, Alabama, has returned to practice on a limited basis after recovering from a stress fracture in his leg.
A knee condition known as patella tendinitis has prevented Wells from participating in any of the Pack's practices during the pre-season.
"I'm hoping I can get back out there by next week," Wells said. "Hopefully I can play in the game against Georgia. It's been very frustrating, but I try to keep a positive attitude about the whole situation."
In a year when NC State coach Herb Sendek is installing new schemes on both offense and defense, this isn't necessarily the best time to be sitting on the sidelines.
"I'm very concerned about it," said Wells. "I try to pay attention in practice and try to keep an eye out on the court. I'm also working on my conditioning so I don't get too much out of shape."
Wells, a 6-6 senior from Winston-Salem, figured to get his share of minutes this year after making a total of 22 starts last season. He also led the Wolfpack in three-point shooting (40%) and shot 88.3% (68-77) from the free throw line.
NC State will close out its two-game exhibition schedule with a contest against the 5-Star Hawks on Sunday night at Reynolds Coliseum. Air time on the Wolfpack Capitol Sports Network is 7:00 p.m. The game can also be heard via the internet on GOPACK.com.
