Men Win, Women Lose To Maryland In Swimming

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 5) - The NC State men and women swimming squads split their in-conference meet against Maryland on Friday evening at the Willis Casey Aquatics Center. The NC State men (3-0, 3-0) defeated Maryland (2-1, 0-1) 137-104 while the Wolfpack women (2-2, 0-2) was downed by the Terps (3-0, 1-0).
For the NC State men, Andy Johnson continued his diving brilliance as he won on both the one and three-meter boards. Braden Holloway (1:51.95), Richard Culberson (1:53.42) and Pat Marrow (1:53.57) came in first, second and third, respectively, in the 200 backstroke to help turn the meet in the Pack's favor.
The Maryland men had an impressive 100 freestyle race as Drew Childs (45.17) and Aaron Peterson (45.81) came in first and second to keep the Terps close.
The NC State women got a huge performance from Mandy Horn. She won both the 200 freestyle (1:51.78) and the 100 freestyle (52.70). Shelly Cavaliere (one-meter) and Erin Bailey (three-meter) also took home top totals on the diving boards.
The Maryland women had a rather balanced attack. Jenna Hough (1,000 freestyle), Katy Novotny (50 freestyle), Jill Thomas (200 I.M.), Bridget Mallon (200 butterfly), Carina Tennesen (200 backstroke) Kelly Bowman (500 freestyle) and Jill Martin (200 breaststroke) all took home first place finishes for the Terps.
NC State will ready itself for another ACC battle as both the men and the women meet Duke. The meet, set to begin at 5:00 p.m., will take place at the Willis Casey Aquatics Center on Tuesday.
