Men's Soccer Downs UNC Charlotte

Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 30) - The NC State men's soccer team held on to beat UNC Charlotte 2-1 in the Big Four Tournament Saturday afternoon, which is being held at the Method Road Soccer Complex. In earlier tournament action, #1 Duke downed UNC Greensboro 1-0.
The Wolfpack (6-4-3, 1-3-1 ACC) scored the only goal of the first half, as Shaker Asad beat UNCC goalie John McDonough at the 33:05 mark. Jeremy Ballenger, who moved from sweeper to the midfield for the game, got credit for the assist.
Asad then struck again, as he stole a pass in the offensive zone and scored on the breakaway at the 80:30. UNCC (5-9, 1-6 Conference USA) came right back with a goal by Tim Flavin with eight minutes remaining, but State held on for the victory.
For the Pack, Mitchell Watson finished the day with six saves, while his counterpart John McDonough had four before leaving the game with an injury.
The BIG Four Tournament will conclude tomorrow with two afternoon games. Duke will take on UNC Charlotte at 1:00p.m., then NC State will play UNC Greensboro at 3:00 p.m.
