Pack Linebacker Among ACC Elite

OFFENSIVE BACK - Scottie Montgomery (WR) Duke
Montgomery, a 6-1, 195-pound wide receiver from Cherryville, N.C., earned
offensive back of the week honors after leading the Blue Devils to their
first win of the season, a 24-17 overtime triumph over Virginia on Saturday.
The senior wideout had a strong all-around game as he caught eight passes
for a Duke season-high 172 yards, returned three kickoffs for 78 yards, and
also threw a nine-yard game-tying touchdown pass with six seconds remaining
in regulation to send the contest into overtime.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Jason Whitaker (G) Florida State
Whitaker, a 6-5, 300-pound guard, recorded 11 pancake blocks, the most by a
Florida State lineman in three years, in the top-ranked Seminoles 31-21
victory over 21st-ranked Miami this past weekend. The Panama City, Fla.,
native was instrumental in the Florida State offensive attack, as the
Seminoles rolled up 485 yards of total offense on the Hurricanes, including
332 yards passing and 132 yards on the ground. For his part, Whitaker did
not allow a sack or a pressure in the game, and was not whistled for a
penalty.
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Erwyn Lyght (LB) Maryland
Lyght, a senior linebacker for the Terrapins earned defensive lineman of the
week honors after recording all three of his team's sacks in Maryland's
17-14 win at Wake Forest on Saturday. The Westfield, N.J. native, recorded
six solo tackles and assisted on another stop in leading a Maryland
defensive effort that limited Wake Forest to 226 yards of total offense in
the game, including just 82 yards passing. His three sacks in the game were
also a career high.
DEFENSIVE BACK - Errol Hood (CB) North Carolina
Hood, a native of Lenoir, N.C., turned in a solid defensive effort in North
Carolina's 24-17 overtime loss to seventh-ranked Georgia Tech. The sophomore
cornerback recorded seven tackles in the contest from his secondary
position, including a sack of Yellow Jacket quarterback Joe Hamilton. Hood
also intercepted a pass deep in North Carolina territory in the fourth
quarter, and broke up two others. He recovered two fumbles in the game, one
of which he returned 20 yards, to set up the Tar Heels game-tying touchdown
in the third quarter.
SPECIALIST - Brian Kopka (PK) Maryland
Kopka, a junior kicker from Hollywood, Fla., split the uprights with a
19-yard field goal attempt with 3:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift
Maryland to a 17-14 victory over Wake Forest this past weekend. The kick was
Kopka's first game-winning field goal of his career and he coupled that
effort by hitting on both of his extra point attempts in the game.
ROOKIE - Dantonio Burnette (LB) NC State
Burnette, a true freshman linebacker for the Wolfpack played all 75
defensive snaps in NC State's 35-31 victory over Clemson this past weekend.
The Warner Robbins, Ga., native recorded a team-high-tying nine tackles in
the contest, including two tackles for losses of eight yards. Burnette has
recorded 49 stops on the year, including seven tackles for loss and three
quarterback sacks.
