Tailbacks Thinning Out
10/11/1999 12:00:00 AM | Football
There was a time this season when NC State had tailbacks galore. During the pre-season, head coach Mike O'Cain figured he'd be able to choose between the likes of Ray Robinson, Rahshon Spikes, K.J. Stone and Erik Leak. Now that list has dwindled.
During Saturday night's 35-31 victory over Clemson, the Pack lost Robinson and Stone. Robinson, who had been slowed most of the year by a pair of ankle sprains, now has a new injury to deal with. The sophomore will be out 7-14 days after having an arthroscopic procedure performed on his right knee on Monday.
Stone's season is over. The fourth quarter knee injury he sustained will require major surgery, which will be performed once the swelling has gone down.
Fortunately for NC State, Leak is set to return this weekend after missing two games with a toe injury.
Meanwhile, top wide receiver Chris Coleman's dislocated elbow will keep him out of action anywhere from 3-6 weeks. The senior went down on the Pack's second possession on Saturday night.
Center Keegan Weir, who fractured his fibula in the opener at Texas, is being listed as doubtful for this Saturday's contest against Virginia. The sophomore started running last week.
