NC State head coach Dave Doeren
Opening:
“First quarter, I take ownership for. We weren’t ready for whatever reason. But, our players kept fighting. They [UNC] played really well. The first quarter put us in a difficult position to come back and win. I’m disappointed for our seniors, but we have one more game to play as we get to prepare for a bowl game.”
On adjustments and better play defensively starting in second quarter:
“I just kept telling them to keep playing the next play. Don’t look at the scoreboard. Last year, when we were up, I told them the same thing. But our players were being positive on the sideline. They kept encouraging each other. We made some adjustments throughout the game and just tackled better. Our players didn’t quit.”
On the play of quarterback Jacoby Brissett:
“He played really hard. He played like he always does. He likes to compete and he gives all that he can. He’s great to coach. I’m thankful I get one more game to coach him and be around him. But, that is what his legacy will be here…a competitor.”
North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora
Opening Statement:
‘It was a heck of a game. I’m proud of our football team- they’ve done something that’s never been done in winning 11-straight games and the seniors are leaving a tremendous legacy. The phrase of “I’ve got your back,” was repeated throughout the entire game. It didn’t matter what happened in the game today but everyone was very positive and that’s the epitome of who this team is.”
On success in first quarter:
“We ran the ball. Our offensive line was dominant up front front when we ran the ball. I thought our guys on the perimeter also did well, especially with our two backs at the second level who did a tremendous job and made a lot of big plays.”
On 35-7 score last year vs. 35-7 in first quarter this year:
“I’ve been saying it all year that this team has a lot of grit. That started with right after the first game, and has only gotten bigger every game. This is a special group- there are 72 guys on this team that are really tight and do things for each other. They do things for each other and for something greater than themselves, and that’s what makes it so special.”
