
Pack Opens Play at NCAA Championships on Friday

NC State is making its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2011

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team opens play at the NCAA Championships Friday at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
The Pack finished in third place in last week's NCAA Raleigh Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships. NC State is making its first appearance in the NCAA Championship since 2011.
The Pack tees off for the first round Friday morning from the first tee at 8:17 a.m. CT. NC State's second round will start on Saturday from the 10th tee at 1:37 p.m. CT.
Championships Format
Finals play consists of three days of stroke play on Friday thru Sunday (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play (Monday) to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday.
Regional Wrap-Up
NC State qualified for the NCAA Championship by shooting a program-record team score of 831 to finish third in the Raleigh Regional. The score of 831 is the lowest three-round team score in an NCAA Regional in program history. NC State opened the regional with a score of 275, shot a 277 on Tuesday and closed the event with a 279. The team 18-hole scores rank third, fourth and fifth in program history for single rounds in an NCAA Regional in team history. Sophomore Benjamin Shipp led the Pack with a three-round score of 12-under-par 201. Shipp's three-round score of 201 is the lowest 54-hole score for an NC State individual in an NCAA Regional in program history. Franken was next for the Pack, finishing in a tie for fifth-place with a score of nine-under-par. The fifth place finish is the sixth top-five finish and eighth top-10 finish of the season for the ACC Player of the Year.
