
Reenan Places First at 86 KG at World Team Trials Challenge

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Seven members of the Wolfpack Regional Training Center (RTC) took part in the 2018 World Team Trials Challenge in Rochester, Minnesota, last weekend. Competing in freestyle action, the event was highlighted by Nick Reenan placing first at 86 kg.
Reenan swept his matches, first defeating Ryan Mcwatters 11-0 in 2:49 and Joe Rau 10-0 in 2:31. With each first place bouts contested as best-of-three series, Reenan defeated Richard Perry 4-0 in the first match then 6-3 in the second.
Other highlights included Hayden Hidlay placing third at 70 kg, Tommy Gantt placing third at 74 kg, Timmy McCall finishing fourth at 92 kg and Quinton Godley finishing fourth at 74 kg.
Two other Wolfpack RTC members qualified for the World Team Trials but did not compete; 2017 bronze medalist at the World Championships, Nick Gwiazdowski, who earned a bye and Michael Macchiavello, the 2018 NCAA Champion at 184 pounds who qualified but was not in action.
Gwiazdowski will face Adam Coon at Final X. Nick Reenan will head to Final X at State College on June 16 to face 2018 U.S. Open champion and Ivan Yarygin champion David Taylor for the World Team spot.
