NCAA Release
INDIANAPOLIS - NC State men's tennis sophomore Alexis Galarneau received a singles bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships, as announced Wednesday evening. He is the first Wolfpack player to receive an individual bid since 2016.Â
Galarneau, who is currently ranked 45th in the nation, received an at-large selection and will be part of a field of 64 singles players that are set to compete in the single-elimination tournament. The bracket for the event is set to be released Tuesday, May 22.Â
Earlier in the season, Galarneau joined an elite group in the top 20 of the Oracle/ITA singles rankings with a career-high and program-best No. 16 designation. He also made program history earlier this fall when he became the first Wolfpack men's tennis player to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships in October.Â
After a record-setting fall campaign, Galarneau remained ranked in the top 45 during the entirety of dual match play. Ten of his 14 wins during the 2017-18 season were against ranked opponents. Among those wins were victories against Georgia's No. 21 Wayne Montgomery, Duke's No. 25 Nicolas Alvarez, and the match clincher against Minnesota's No. 35 Stefan Milicevic.Â
The singles championships will be played in Winston-Salem, N.C. from May 23-28 following the conclusion of the team championships. NC State will open action in the team championships on May 11, as it travels to Austin, Texas for a first round match against California.
