SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The NC State softball team fell 7-0 in its series finale with Syracuse on Sunday afternoon at Skytop Softball Stadium.
The Wolfpack suffers the weekend sweep and moves to 22-25 (5-15 ACC) on the season, while the Orange improve to 26-18 (8-11 ACC).
How It Happened
-'Cuse opened the contest with four runs on as many hits and an error. A leadoff homer to center field plated the first run, and after a hit-by-pitch and walk put runners at first and second a single through the right side and error brought the runners across for the 3-0 lead. With a runner on second after advancing on the throw, a hard-hit ball to second base allowed the fourth run to score.
-In the third Cheyenne Balzer led off with a single to the pitcher's circle and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, but she was stranded on a pop up to third base foul territory and pair of strikeouts.
-The Orange extended their lead to six in the fourth inning with another leadoff homer to center field and RBI single to the center field wall after a two-out double and error put a runner on third.
-Syracuse belted its third home run of the game in the fifth to make it 7-0.
-NC State tried to rally in the seventh when Alyssa Compton legged out a one-out single to third base and pinch hitter Madeline Curtis hit a double, her first of the year, to put runners at second and third after Syracuse's shortstop lost the pop fly in the sun.
Inside The Box Score
-Devin Wallace (11-13) took the loss after giving up four earned runs in the first inning. Harli Hubbard relieved her in the second, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Brittany Nimmo closed out the contest in the seventh, giving up just one hit.
