
Softball Falls In Rubber Match To Tar Heels

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State softball team fell 8-0 (6) in its rubber match with UNC-Chapel Hill on Monday evening at Anderson Stadium.
The Wolfpack moves to 22-21 (5-12 ACC), and the Tar Heels improve to 25-21 (13-5 ACC).
How It Happened
-The Heels struck first, taking a 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run shot down the left field line. The leadoff batter singled to third base but was caught stealing second, and a pair of singles through the left side followed to put two on base.
-UNC-CH doubled its lead in the second inning, scoring three runs on has many hits. A double to left center brought the first two runs across after a leadoff single through the left gap and two-out walk put runners on first and second. The runner then scored from second on a single down the right field line.
-In the sixth the Heels scored two more runs to end the game. A one-out double to the shortstop followed by a two-out triple to center field plated the first run, and an RBI single to right field drove in the final run.

-Kama Woodall (8-8) took the loss in the circle as she gave up six earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched. Devin Wallace relieved her and gave up the other two runs.
-Sam Russ led the team at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance, while Jade Caraway and Cheyenne Balzer each tallied base hits.
-The Pack turned a 3-6-4 double play in the fourth inning, its 17th of the season.
