NC State earns fourth Player of the Week selection
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a strong offensive week at the plate, NC State baseball's Will Wilson has been named ACC Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office.
Â
The sophomore collects the honor for the second time this season, as he earned the award on March 19 following the Wolfpack's sweep at Clemson. NC State has secured the ACC Player of the Week four times to lead all teams in the league, as Brett Kinneman has claimed the award twice.
Â
Wilson helped lead NC State to a 3-1 record last week, compiling a .316 batting average with eight RBI, six runs and three home runs. The sophomore shortstop recorded his second career multi-homer game in the series finale against Notre Dame to clinch the series, as the Wolfpack extended its ACC series-win streak to nine dating back to 2017.
Â
He also homered in Wednesday's game at UNCW, as his three-run blast extended the Wolfpack's lead from 3-1 to 6-1. Wilson now has 10 home runs for the season, which is tied for third in the ACC, and six of them have come against conference opponents, tying for the most by an individual in conference play.Â
Â
Wilson logged an .842 slugging percentage during the week with 16 total bases and did not commit an error defensively with seven putouts and nine assists.
Â
NC State returns to action Tuesday evening when the Wolfpack takes on UNC-Chapel Hill in the 'Duel at the DBAP'. First pitch of the non-conference matchup is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast live on ESPNU from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
