Softball Suffers 9-1 Loss As Panthers Even Series

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team suffered a 9-1 loss on Saturday afternoon in the second game of its weekend series against Pittsburgh at Dail Stadium.
The Panthers even the series, improving to 9-6-1 (1-1 ACC), while the Wolfpack falls to 12-6 (1-1 ACC) on the season.
How It Happened
-After a one-out walk and two-out walk put a pair of runners on for Pitt, back-to-back doubles to right field brought in three runs in the first inning.
-In the fourth inning the Panthers added another run, extending their lead to four. A leadoff single and one-out double put runners on second and third, and a Wolfpack error allowed the runner from third to score.
-Timberlyn Shurbutt scored the Pack's only run of the game when she led off the bottom half of the inning with a home run to left center.
-Pitt added three more runs in the sixth inning with a three-run home run to left center after an outfield single and walk put two on base.
-In the seventh the Panthers tacked on two more runs. After the leadoff batter grounded out to Lily Bishop at first, Connor McGaffic reached on an error and scored on Taylor Myers's double to left center. After a walk put two on base for the Panthers, Alexis Solak's single to right field scored Myers from second.

-Jade Caraway, Chandley Garner and Shurbutt each tallied a hit.
-Kama Woodall took the loss in the circle, moving to 4-3 on the season. She pitched the first inning while Brittany Nimmo relieved her for five innings and Harli Hubbard closed out the game.
-Shurbutt's home run was her fourth of the season.
