Wolfpack garners fourth preseason top-30 ranking

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State baseball team will open the 2018 season ranked No. 28 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Poll, announced Tuesday by the organization. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) also released its preseason poll on Tuesday, as the Wolfpack was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Division by the league's head coaches.

NC State is one of eight programs listed among the NCBWA Preseason Poll, which ranks the nation's top-35 teams heading into the season. The Pack has been ranked among the preseason or final ranking of a major poll in each of the past 16 seasons. NCSU is ranked No. 13 in the Perfect Game Preseason Poll, No. 23 in Collegiate Baseball and No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll to garner four top-30 preseason rankings.

The Wolfpack collected 53 points in the Atlantic Division of the ACC Preseason Poll to finish fourth behind overall conference favorite Florida State with 95 points, Louisville (78) and Clemson with 70 points. Wake Forest was picked fifth in the division with 52 points, while Boston College and Notre Dame rounded out the group with 25 and 19 points, respectively.

UNC-Chapel Hill was projected to win the Coastal Division with 96 points and Virginia was tabbed second with 83 points. Duke was third with 62 and Miami collected 60 points to occupy fourth. Georgia Tech was predicted to finish fifth in the Coastal with 46 points, while Virginia Tech secured 27 and Pitt tallied 18 points.
