
Wolfpack Splits Second Day Of Homewood Suites By Hilton RDU/RTP Invite

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team split its pair of games on Saturday at the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational, dropping a 5-2 decision with Ohio and run-ruling Wagner 8-0 (5) in the nightcap at Dail Stadium.
The Wolfpack moves to 9-5 on the season while Ohio improves to 7-2 and Wagner falls to 1-3. Thanks to Kama Woodall and Brittany Nimmo's combined no-hitter the Pack has earned shutout wins in four of its last five games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
-Ohio took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on one hit and two Wolfpack errors, and extended its lead to three in the third inning with a home run to left center.
-NC State cut its deficit to one in the fourth, as Timberlyn Shurbutt led off the frame with a single to left field and Alyssa Compton went deep to left center for the first home run of her career.
-In the sixth the Bobcats tacked on a pair of runs. Deanna Cole drew a one-out walk and scored on Mackenzie Brunswick's double to left field, and Brunswick then scored from second on a Wolfpack error.
-The Pack tried to rally in the seventh when Jade Caraway hit a one-out double to left center and Sam Russ followed with a double to left field to put runners on second and third, but a strikeout and pop up to second base ended the game.

-Caraway and Shurbutt tallied two hits apiece as the team had seven in the game.
-Caraway, Russ and Shurbutt each hit a double, as Shurbutt owns a team-best five this season.
-Compton's first career home run was the Pack's eighth of the season.
-Devin Wallace threw her third complete game of the season, moving to 4-3 as she gave up three hits and as many earned runs.
Game Two
-NC State scored four runs on as many hits in the first inning. Caraway and Russ led off the frame with base hits, and following a double steal Cheyenne Balzer drew a one-out walk to load the bases for Compton. Compton's single up the middle brought Caraway and Russ home, and then Chandley Garner's double to the right field wall scored Balzer and Compton.
-In the third inning the Pack added three more runs. After Balzer reached on a fielder's choice Compton's double to the left field wall allowed her to cross home plate for the first run. Compton scored the second run of the frame on a fielder's choice after advancing to third on Haylee Kobziak's single to center field. A Wagner error with the bases loaded plated the third run.
-Jessica Moore brought in the winning run in the fifth inning with a double to left field, scoring Macauley Prickett from first after she reached on a fielder's choice.
