TEMPE, Ariz. - After a perfect 8-0 start to the 2018 season, the NC State men's tennis team earned a spot in the Top 25 of the Oracle/ITA Men's National Team Rankings, checking in at No. 19.Â
In head coach Kyle Spencer's first year at the helm, NC State is off to its best start since the 2007 season, when it also won eight straight matches to begin dual match play. The No. 19 ranking marks the first time since Feb. 23, 2016 that the Wolfpack has entered the Top 25.Â
The Wolfpack has emerged victorious in all four of its home matches and also boasts an impressive 4-0 road record. The team most recently picked up wins at Old Dominion and at VCU. In January, NC State won back-to-back matches against two Power Five opponents in Minnesota and Northwestern, both of which were NCAA Tournament teams in 2017.Â
Alexis Galarneau also remained ranked in the Top 25 in singles, moving up three spots to No. 16, which ties his career high that he established after the fall season. Galarneau has continued to shine in dual match play, where he is 5-1 on the season. Two of the Wolfpack sophomore's wins this spring were against ranked opponents, as he defeated Minnesota's No. 35 Stefan Milicevic and Old Dominion's No. 76 Aziz Kijametovic.
NC State returns to action at home on Sunday as it plays host to Furman. First serve from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
