GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State track & field has swept the ACC Field Performer of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Joshua Davis was selected as Men's Field Performer of the Week for the second time in his career, while Lauren Evans claimed Women's Field Performer of the Week honors for the first time.
Davis opened his season with two straight weight throw wins. At the JDL College Kick-off Classic, the redshirt senior posted a record-setting weight throw performance with a 76' 3" (23.24m) mark. It was the best throw in NC State history, breaking Davis' own program record and setting a new JDL Fast Track facility record. Davis' four throws at the meet are the top four marks across all levels of collegiate competition.
Davis then went on to take gold at the Hoosier Open with a 69' 4.25" (21.14m) throw on his second attempt of the day.
Evans, a redshirt junior from Fayetteville, N.C., also put up an impressive performance at the JDL College Kick-off Classic. Her weight throw of 67' 8" (20.62m) earned her gold at the meet but also had bigger implications. The mark was a new personal record, the second-best throw in program history, and currently stands as the fifth-best throw in the nation. Evans also saw success in the shot put, where her mark of 49' 4.5" (15.05m) sent her home with a silver medal.
Evans also finished in the top 10 of both the women's weight throw and shot put at the Hoosier Open.
Up next, NC State competes for the first time in 2018 as the Wolfpack makes the short trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Carolina Cup on Saturday, Jan. 13. For the most up-to-date information on NC State track & field, follow @Wolfpack_TF on Twitter.
