Wilson Named Co-ACC Wrestler of the Week

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State redshirt freshman Tariq Wilson was named the ACC Co-Wrestler of the Week, along with Virginia Tech's Ryan Blees, the league announced on Tuesday.

Wilson, from Steubenville, Ohio, came in unranked at 133 pounds and defeated returning All-American and #5 Jack Mueller of Virginia 9-4 in the Wolfpack's 32-7 home ACC win over Virginia this past weekend.

Wilson had all three takedowns in the bout, as all of Mueller's points were scored on reversals. Wilson also added a two-point near fall and an escape point in the third period, after he rode out Mueller the entire second period.

The win was Wilson's 19^th of the season, most among the Wolfpack's starters, and improved his record to 9-1 in duals.

For his efforts, Wilson was also named TheOpenMat.com's College Wrestler Wrestler of the Week.

Wilson is the third different Wolfpack wrestler to earn ACC Wrestler of the Week honors. Sr. Kevin Jack won the first award, and R-Fr. Hayden Hidlay has been named a league-best three times this season, including last week.
