
Boykin Second, Reenan Fourth at Southern Scuffle

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The NC State wrestling team only sent a small contingent of wrestlers to the 2018 Southern Scuffle, but the Wolfpack came away with big results from Chattanooga, Tenn. The Pack sent six wrestlers overall, and three placed at their weights.

Sr. Michael Boykin was the Pack's top finisher, as he took second at 285 pounds, including a pair of wins over top-11 foes. Boykin started with back-to-back decisions to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarters, Boykin scored a 4-3 upset over #3 Nick Nevills of Penn State, then defeated #11 Nathan Butler of Stanford 3-1 to reach the finals. Boykin fell in the finals bout to #6 Jacob Kasper of Duke in extra time 5-1.

So. Nick Reenan, who is redshirting this season, placed fourth at 184 pounds. Reenan started the tournament with three straight wins, including a 6-4 decision over #17 Coleman of Navy in the quarterfinals. Reenan fell to #1 Nickal of Penn State in the semifinals, but came back with 23-8 technical fall win to reach the third place bout. Reenan dropped his final bout 4-3 to #15 Bryce Carr of Chattanooga.

R-Jr. Jamel Morris placed fifth at 133 pounds, as both of his losses were to Colby Smith of Missouri.
