CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wolfpack saw a strong start to 2018 competition on Saturday at the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup.
Gabriele Cunningham broke her own school record in the 60m dash, improving her mark by .04 seconds to 7.35.Â

Six marks qualified for the ACC Indoor Championships, while four athletes set new PRs. Throwers Lauren Evans and Joshua Davis continued their impressive seasons as first-place finishers in the weight throw. This was Davis' third straight win in the event and Evans' second of the season. The team had 15 podium finishes, including a first-place finish by Shannon Patterson, Dylan Peebles, Will Hoffmann, and Abdur Rahmaan Kelly in the men's 4x400 relay.

Jumps
In the long jump, Ja'Von Douglas earned second place with a mark of 23' 0.00" (7.01m), while Lauren White finished just outside of the top three, setting a new PR of 18' 8.50" (5.70m). Javonne Antoine took home first place in the triple jump and qualified for ACC Indoors. In the high jump, JaTory Reid posted an ACC Indoors-qualifying mark of 6' 8.00" (2.03m).

Throws
The Wolfpack swept the weight throw, with Evans and Davis each taking first place. Evans notched her winning mark of 62' 1.75" (18.94m) on her fifth attempt. Davis' final throw of 66' 7.00" (20.29m) put him ahead of the second-place finisher by more than two meters. Redshirt freshman Tyson Fortenberry finished just outside of the top three in the men's weight throw and set a new PR.

Evans finished the women's shot put in second place, while Fortenberry took third place in the men's.

On the Track
Cravont Charleston, Peebles, and Cunningham all qualified for ACC Indoor in the 60m dash. Charleston and Peebles took first and second place, respectively, while Cunningham set a new PR with a first place finish. Cunningham also finished in first place in the 60m hurdles, improving her PR by two tenths of a second.

Kelly took home second place in the men's 200m dash and ran as the anchor on the men's 4x400 relay team, which finished in first place. In the women's 800m run, Megan Rempel took home second for the Wolfpack with a time of 2:14.09.

PRs
Four Wolfpack athletes set PRs in five events. Fortenberry improved his mark in the men's weight throw on his final attempt to 55' 1.50" (16.80m), while White's first attempt on the long jump set a new PR of 18' 8.50" (5.70m).
Cunningham established new PRs in both the 60m hurdles and the 60m dash. In the hurdles, she finished the preliminaries with a new PR before going on to win in the finals and set another PR of 8.22. Her 60m dash improved to 7.35.
Dylan Peebles' second-place finish in the men's 60m dash also resulted in a new PR of 6.85.
