RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of its Friday evening match against LIU Brooklyn and sustained that advantage until the weather took a turn for the worse.
In the 32nd minute of the match and at approximately 4:39 p.m., lightning was detected within eight miles of Dail Soccer Stadium and the match was postponed. The teams attempted to wait out the weather, but the storms proved too persistent and the contest was ultimately abandoned at 6:30 p.m., nearly two full hours after the initial delay.
Freshman David Norris scored on a header from a Brad Sweeney cross in the 10th minute to put the Wolfpack ahead early. Freshman goalkeeper Leon Krapf preserved the lead in the 24th minute when he stopped a Romario Guscott shot and the Wolfpack defense stepped up to clear a ball off the line in the 31st to keep the score at 1-0. Seconds later, the contest was stopped.
Since the match did not progress to 70 completed minutes of play per NCAA Rule 7.5 and it was unable to be restarted within three hours of the originally scheduled start time per NCAA Rule 7.6, it will not count towards either team's record.
Ticket Information
Season ticket holders can exchange the Sept. 1 ticket for any other regular-season home match. Single-game buyers can exchange as well or can receive a refund by contacting the ticket office.
