
Women’s Golf Summer Update

Members of the NC State women's golf team have continued to keep a competitive mindset over the summer by playing in several tournaments around the world. Below is a recap from the past month of how Wolfpack players have done in their respective competitions.
Porter Cup
Naomi Ko started off her summer with a third place finish at the 2017 Women's Porter Cup on June 9. The 54-hole tournament was held at Niagra Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y., and is considered to be one of golf's biggest amateur tournaments.
The Victoria, BC, native shot 71-70-74 for a one-under total of 215, improving her finish from last year when she took T7th overall.
Women's Western National Amateur Championship
Ko and Cecily Overbey both advanced to match play at the WWGA National Amateur Championship at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, Ill. Ko shot 73-77=150 to finish 15th and Overbey posted a 36-hole score of 77-80=157 to finish 51st in stroke play.
Both won their first match in the championship flight, as Ko defeated Grace Curran 3 & 2 and Overbey edged out Monet Chun in 19 holes. While Overbey fell 5 & 4 to Janet Mao in the Round of 32, Ko managed to make it to the quarterfinals with a 4 & 3 win over Gabby Curtis.
Ko bowed out of the match play portion in the Round of 16, falling to eventual champion and Canadian national teammate, Maddie Szeryk, 2 & 1.
St. Rule Cup
On the first weekend of June, India Clyburn had the opportunity to play at the hallowed St. Andrews Old and New Courses in Scotland in the St. Rule Trophy – a 54-hole amateur stroke play tournament.
She finished in a tie for 23rd with rounds of 71, 72 and 79 for a four-under total of 222.
Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship
Clyburn followed the St. Rule Cup with a strong appearance at the Ladies' British Open Amateur, advancing to the Round of 16 in match play. The annual tournament was held June 13-17 at Pyle & Kenfig GC in Wales.
She shot 73-74=147 to finish in a tie for 26th in stroke play, and defeated Gemma Batty on the 20th hole in the Round of 32. In the second round she fell to Alessandra Fanali 2 & 1.
British Columbia Women's Amateur
Ko played in the British Columbia Women's Amateur, which was held June 27-30 at Vernon Golf and Country Club.
She opened the competition with a four-under 69 to lead the field, but dropped to fifth with an 80 in the second round. She bounced back on day three with a five-under 68 to move up to second place, and finished with a 76 to place in a tie for third.
Valigano Trophy
Earlier in the summer, Clyburn was selected as one of eight players to represent Team GB&I (Great Britain and Ireland) in the Valigano Trophy. This is considered to be one of the highest honors in amateur golf.
The match was held on June 30-July 1 at the Golf Club Bogono in Italy. On the first day she managed to win one up with Clemson's Alice Hewson in her foursomes matchup, but fell 3&1 in her singles matchup with Florida State's Morgane Metraux.
On day two Clyburn and Hewson finished two down in their foursomes match and Clyburn won one up over Metraux in singles play. The Continent of Europe managed to win 15-9 over Team GB&I.
German International Ladies Amateur Championship
Laura Kowohl earned a top five finish at the German International Ladies Amateur Championship, which was held June 29-July 2 in Mülheim , Germany. She shot rounds of 73, 74 and 72, which were followed with a final round of 68 to finish with a 287.
