
Cunningham, Charleston earn medals at Pan Am Junior Championships

NC State track & field athletes Cravont Charleston and Gabriele Cunningham each took home medals for Team USA Saturday afternoon at the 2017 Pan America Junior Championships
TRUJILLO, Peru -- Young Wolfpack standouts Cravont Charleston and Gabriele Cunningham each claimed gold medals as Team USA swept 4x100m relay titles Saturday afternoon at the 2017 Pan America Junior Track & Field Championships. As an individual, Cunningham took home a bronze medal in the women's 200m.

Charleston, the reigning ACC Outdoor Track & Field MVP, ran the second leg of the men's 4x100 as the United States finished with a time of 39.33. On the women's side, Cunningham ran the opening leg for Team USA as the team posted a mark of 44.07.
Cunningham, a rising junior for the Wolfpack, claimed a bronze medal in the women's 200m dash with a time of 23.60 in the finals. She is the first NC State athlete to win a Pan Am Juniors medal as an individual since 2013, when Wolfpack alumna Alexis Perry took home gold in the 100m hurdles.

Rising sophomore Dylan Peebles represented Team USA in the men's 200m semifinal, placing third in his heat with a time of 21.83 seconds. The Raleigh native missed the finals cut by just one place as he finished ninth overall in the preliminary round.

Tim Bason, a redshirt freshman for the Wolfpack, competed in the men's 3,000m steeplechase after taking gold at the 2017 USATF Junior Championships. A native of Plainsboro, N.J., Bason finished with a time of 9:12.63 to place 7th in his first career Pan Am Juniors appearance.
