
Shipp Qualifies for 117th U.S. Amateur Championship

Sophomore finished second at qualifying event
RALEIGH – Rising sophomore Benjamin Shipp of the NC State men's golf team earned a competition spot at the 117th U.S. Amateur Championship earlier this month.
The Duluth, Ga., native finished in second place at the Capital City Club-Crabapple qualifier in Roswell, Ga. Shipp shot a 66-67—133 for a two-round total of seven under par and finished one shot back of the winner.
Shipp was a PING All-Region Team selection after competing in 11 tournaments and 32 total rounds in his Wolfpack debut. He averaged 72 strokes per round to rank third on the team and earned four top-10 finishes. He scored his best finish of the season with a fourth place finish at the Chris Schenkel Invite with a three-round total of eight under par.
The 117th U.S. Amateur Championship will be played August 14-20 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
