Pack Quartet Headed to South America

Four members of the Wolfpack track squads are headed to Peru next month for the 2017 Pan Am Junior Championships. Tim Bason, Cravont Charleston, Dylan Peebles and Gabriele Cunningham qualified for the prestigious international competition after finishing in the top two in their respective events at the USA Track & Field Championships last week. Â
Bason, a freshman from West Windsor, N.J., qualified by winning the 3000 meter steeplechase in California - his first full steeplechase. After redshirting the 2016-17 track seasons, Bason clocked in at 9:15.40 to win the USATF junior title.
Two Wolfpack runners will compete in the 200 meters in Peru. On the women's side, sophomore Gabriele Cunningham qualified with a second-place finish in the 200m in Sacramento, running a 23.56. The Charlotte native also set a new school record in the 100 meters, clocking in at 11.26.
Raleigh native Peebles will run the men's 200m after also finishing second in California. He posted a 20.95, one of the top marks in school history.
Freshman Cravont Charleston, who also hails from Charlotte, will compete with the 4x100 meter relay squad in Peru. The top four finishers in the 100 meters from the USA meet qualified to represent the U.S. at the Pan Am meet.
The Pan Am Junior Championships will be held on July 21 – July 23, 2017 in Trujillo, Peru.
