
Wolfpack Evens Series With 4-1 Win Over Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Highlighted by three runs in the sixth inning, the NC State softball team evened its series with Boston College on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 win at Shea Field.
The Wolfpack improves to 17-33 (10-10 ACC) and the Eagles fall to 28-19 (12-7 ACC) on the season.
Game Rewind
-The bats were kept quiet in the first inning, and the Pack took a 1-0 lead in the second. Jessica Moore hit a two-out single to shallow left field, and scored on Cheyenne Balzer's double to the left field wall.
-The teams were kept at bay the next three innings as only one hit was tallied - a single to center field by BC's Chloe Sharabba in the fourth.
-NC State plated three runs in the sixth, extending its lead to four. Tyler Ross scored the first run from second on Jade Caraway's single to left field. She led off the inning with a single through the right field gap and advanced to second on a BC error. Caraway scored the second run on Moore's RBI single up the right field line, and a single to left field by Balzer brought in Alyssa Compton from third after she got on base with a hit-by-pitch.
-The Eagles got on the board in the bottom frame with its lone run. Annie Murphy reached base with a one-out double to left field, and an outfield single followed by a sacrifice fly to left field allowed her to score.
-BC managed to reach on an error to lead off the seventh, but the next three batters were retired on a pair of groundouts and pop fly caught in foul territory to seal the Pack's win.
Inside The Box Score
-Silverman went the distance with her 21st complete game of the year, giving up four hits and striking out five batters to pick up the win.
-Balzer and Moore each tallied two hits in their three trips to the plate, while Caraway and Ross each had a 1-for-3 performance and scored one run apiece.
On Deck
NC State will face the Eagles Sunday for the rubber match. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Shea Field.Â
