Election to the Leadership Council is not a recognition of athletic prowess, but leadership ability. The council will give Doeren and the coaching staff input on some decisions, while a player can go to the council with issues they would like brought up to the coaches.
"Someone once said 'A leader is someone who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way,'" said Doeren. "That's what these men will do and have done already for our team. Being on the leadership council gives the ownership in the process."
Two members of the 2017 Council (Tony Adams and Jalan McClendon) were elected for the fourth time in their careers, while there were seven players elected for the third time.
